We did our TED talk today. I think I did O.K, but if I had more time, I could practice more and do some more preparations.
I will modify and cite my research paper tonight. I spent all of my time on class dealing with my final project and the ted talk tomorrow. I have almost finished my final project. And I am worried boy the ted talk tomorrow. I decided to present my ted talk like this.
I am going to start talking about my research by telling you some numbers. -Women nowadays earn 74 percent of a men’s earning. -Females are 13–21% more likely than males to receive a psychiatric affective diagnosis. -From 1970s, female employment in industries grew by 462% -One third of the kids in United states cried that they lack of mother love. How does all of this happen? What led to this phenomenon? Women didn't all go to work suddenly. And become sick physically and mentally all of a sudden. There must be some reasons behind this. Some people say there are countless benefits for women to join in the workforce. For example, they could earn more buy more; gain more independence in the family and society. However, I don't think so. Joining the workforce is harmful to women’s health. So, my main point is, “Since the 1970s, the majority of health concerns for women in America are work related.” Let me explain this to you in several different aspects. First of all, women earn less than men. However, earning less is not the main cause of women’s health concerns. (because there is a thing called love in the world which make women and men share all of their properties) SO, the main cause is because of the difference in gender pay gap will result in the lack of the access to employer-provided health insurance. Women are majorities in the unemployed and part-time employees. These jobs do not provide adequate health insurance. So women are not covered health insurance in US all the time especially those unmarried women or single mothers. It is a shame that I did not get enough examples by interviewing the adults on our Madeira campus because Madeira do provide an excellent health insurance to every employees! Secondly, their is a vicious circle going on in some women’s life. The vicious circle in women is circulating between their lives and their work. We know human cannot multitasking. We cannot do two things perfectly at one time. Women nowadays are trying to get their full time job done and their family responsibilities done at one time. so No matter how hard they tried, it is just getting worse and worse. they not only get stressful which causes a variety of diseases for them like stress-driven eating, obesity, mental illness, but also, get less free time to spend with their dear child. Sadly, Ms. French has revealed some of these problems in her interview with me, she “balance” the problems by spending less time with her son. When I talked to Ms. Newsome, she told me her way of solving the problem. She likes to disconnect from her work on weekends, so that she will rest well, have fun and spend time with her families. Also, Women like choose the job which is causes more problems for them. The popular work for women are secretaries, administrative assistants, cashiers, waitresses, maids, housekeeping cleaners and child-care workers. Did you find something in common in those works? They all sound tiring and less creative. These job do affect women’s physical health. For example, when I was interviewing Ms. Kimberly Walker, she told me that there are a lot of works to do as a Office Administrator. So that she actually gains weights all the time. We all know how harmful is obesity. These tiring job do affect women’s mental health as well. They make them depressed and suicidal. So, I hope women now can realize how work plays a role is their life and how work is negatively affecting their health. I spent the start of the class interviewing Ms. French and Ms Newsome. And then, I re-submitted my four body paragraphs. And I decided to work on my final project. I do think my material for my final project is to narrow because the women I interviewed are all living in the Madeira community. Therefore, I decide to work on my paper now. I don't think I will be able to hand in either my paper or final project tomorrow.
Today, we watched a lot of fantastic TED Talk during the class. After watching every TED Talk, Ms McGroarty helped us analyzed some good factors which make the TED Talk unique.
In a TED Talk, we should have a hook at the beginning; and then, our body; and then, the conclusion or the summary statement. We have clarified the basics in the TED Talk such as the time, the notecards... For more information, please check up on Haiku Page. Ms. McGroarty's twin sister helped me with my final project today. Following the idea which came up by Ms McGroarty, Ms McGroarty's twin sister concreted my idea. First of all, she and me found out a bunch of women on campus with different occupations; and then, she and me figured out what are best questions to ask during the interview; and after that, she proofread the email I am going to send to those women.
I went to the dinning hall and scheduled a time with one women who is not appeared on the Madeira faculty list. Also, I interviewed Ms. Walker at the end of the class. Of those women who I sent email to, Ms Herridge and Ms French have already replied me and schedule a perfect time which work for us. I hope I can finish the final project on time. I finished my three main body paragraph in the situation which I don't have a complete research question and thesis statement. After talking to Ms McGroarty, I know it is not right to do this. I will consolidate my research question and thesis statement next time before I write anything.
